i mean honestly, genderbending existing characters is exactly like that stupid chocolate-covered raisins metaphor for racebending characters that was going around tumblr a while ago. the appropiate response is "go buy another jar of raisins then, you fucking cheapass". the fact that one girl currently has fewer raisins doesn't justify theft. hell, your current jar isn't even empty yet, what the hell is wrong with you? seems like filling up the nonwhite characters bowl isn't actually all that important to you if you can't be bothered with the small extra step of reaching into the jar instead of the full bowl that's conveniently right there! you just want to be seen as the heroic great equaliser while making no actual effort! i sure as hell am not going to applaud anyone for that.

for fuck's sake, if the original berlin city palace had a cross on top of the dome and you want to build an accurate reconstruction of the outside of the building, you put a fucking cross on top of the dome. it's not that difficult. if non-christians like myself can deal with seeing crosses on churches, they can deal with seeing crosses on reconstructions of buildings from an era when secularism was not a thing yet. i mean, would you be making a big deal about the fucking cross if the original palace was still there? are you making a big deal out of the fact that we're reconstructing it at all even though nobody wants to go back to the kind of monarchy it was originally constructed for? come on...

fuck the assumption that if you are female in an otherwise all-male environment, you will be grateful when another female person shows up. i just spent 28 months in an all-male environment and it was a fucking delight. and as far as i can tell, all it took for me to be treated as a true equal was the first time they witnessed me cursing the fuck out of something i was supposed to be working on. precise opposite of an effort. seriously, as long as i'm surrounded by people with roughly the same level of education, everything is good? because there's actually no such thing as a potential conversation subject that's truly exclusive to a single gender or sex? sure, there are things that only one sex experiences, or that only one gender experiences in our particular society, but i'm a firm believer that we should talk about them anyway, because how else are we ever going to get rid of shitty stereotypes. how will things that should be normal everyday subjects ever stop feeling uncomfortable if everyone just keeps on avoiding them. certainly not by crying about ~*misogyny*~ on the internet.

tl;dr i feel very sorry for everyone who may end up hoping for ~*female solidarity*~ from me at any point in the future, cause they're not going to get it, and it's very possible that i will begin to actively avoid them. stop acting like it's a great challenge to interact with other human beings.

"a woman's partner should have a say in whether she can get an abortion because part of that child came from him"

so presumably if i found a method to remove only my genetic material from that embryo, that would be cool? i mean, since we apparently get complete and unconditional control over what happens to our genetic material now? surely that includes the right to say i don't want it to ever combine with anyone else's and to take whatever steps are necessary to undo it if it happens anyway...

seriously.

i mean honestly, saying that an opinion isn't worth listening to because whoever stated it is too white or too straight or too male or whatever is just one big ad hominem. why would you use something as your first line of defense that basically everyone not already on your side will read as an admission that you don't actually have any points worth listening to?

fuck people who'd claim that the precise same argument can be valid coming from one person and invalid from another. what about cases where the only people who have anything to say at all are those whose identities don't fit into just the right set of cookie cutters? how many perfectly good perspectives do you end up instantly dismissing over your weird ideological purity boner, because that's somehow better than getting them from the "wrong" people? what is wrong with you?

nobody who thinks that that's a good approach speaks for me. everyone who claims to is a liar and a thief.

but look, nobody would think that it's okay to get a pet if you have no real idea whether that particular kind of pet is actually suited to your lifestyle and don't know whether you'd be able to keep up with caring for it properly. nobody would encourage that kind of behaviour. they'd definitely tell you to do some research first at the very least. so why the hell do so many people think the same behaviour is perfectly okay when it comes to children? how fucking irresponsible can you get? sure, let's push someone to create a human being who has expressed clear doubts about the way that would turn out and basically just hope for the best? and then go on to claim that you really love children? pushing for them to be born into situations that show even the slightest signs of being a bad fit doesn't sound particularly loving to me! how could you possibly think that "oh it'll all work out somehow" is an acceptable approach to raising a child??

"women need to view other women as sisters, not competition-"

i don't have any fucking sisters and i will now most definitely view you as the precise opposite of someone i want to support. how dare you assume that kind of obligation to care based on nothing more than feeling the same set of sex characteristics to be acceptable. attitudes like that don't deserve support.

i mean it's not as if this happens to everyone who acts entitled to my time or attention or anything.

(i also like how the metaphor completely breaks down at the point where only children are typically better at sharing and not treating others as competition than people who grew up with siblings. because you know, talk about how you love all your children exactly the same all you like, the amount of time you can invest into caring for them won't magically multiply. of course they're going to compete for a greater share of that time.)

the concept of "sexualising teenagers" doesn't even make sense though. they already are sexual beings, that's literally the whole point of going through puberty. debate how compatible teenage sexuality is with adult sexuality, by all means, act like they don't have sexualities, ahahaha. not as if on a purely physical level many teenagers basically are adults or anything.

look, it becomes impossible for me to take your arguments seriously the moment i learn that you actually believe that "bad person" is a meaningful concept. as in, fundamentally bad, nothing even slightly positive about them, no chance of any kind of redemption or of ever contributing anything worthwhile to society again. why would you do that? what kind of life have you lead up to this point?? because it sounds utterly horrifying and decidedly not as if it would have prepared you to form an unbiased opinion on just about anything.

(how do you expect people with genuinely shitty opinions to ever change in any way if the only ones willing to interact with them are other people who hold the same genuinely shitty opinions? how are you supposed to view people who act convinced that they are so superior to you that that so much as talking to you is beneath them? does that sound like somebody whose point of view might be worth considering? oh wait, i guess that's where the "they are human trash and should kill themselves" part comes in. that would just be so much more convenient that having to acknowledge them as people who have what seems to them like perfectly valid reasons for thinking the way they do, and find ways to counter these reasons, and not have the world magically bend to what you would like it to be.)

"my hairdresser refuses to cut my hair as short as i want it because they think it's too unfeminine and that proves that we still need feminism!"

look, the only time a hairdresser has ever even questioned what i asked for was when i went from almost waist-length to really short, which is absolutely understandable because it is a pretty drastic change and would take a long time to reverse. hell, one of my haircuts during the last couple of years was literally a buzzcut and the only thing that the lady who did it had to say about my request was wondering whether i wasn't going to get a bit cold that way (it was a very wintery march)! your problem is a lack of professionalism on the part of your hairdresser, not ~*oppression*~. your experience is not universal, you have no right to speak for me, stop acting as if you do.

(also, if your hairdresser refuses to do the job you told them to do and you proceed to just pay and leave, that's your own damn fault.)

i like the metaphor i saw the other day: feminism is to gender equality as mcdonald's is to fast food. you can't assume i'm a mcdonald's customer just because you saw me eating a hamburger, because it's far from the only burger-buying opportunity in the world, nor by any means the most enjoyable one. hell, i could even have made the burger myself...

"pearl is 100% lesbian because she didn't seem to enjoy the few times we saw her interact with male characters other than steven"

by that logic, every woman who finds it hard to be comfortable around men because she's had negative experiences with them is automatically a lesbian. every woman who just doesn't have any male acquintances who share her interests and whom she gets along with is automatically a lesbian. there is no such thing as disliking a specific member of a gender that you are, on the whole, attracted to. for some reason i don't think any of the people who use that argument would also argue that every woman who relates to other women in one of these ways is automatically straight...

aaactually a lot of the reason women's jeans tend to have smaller pockets is because as of right now, they typically have lower waistlines. the lowest point where the bottom of the pocket bag can sit relative to your body is predetermined: it's the lowest point your fingertips can comfortably reach when your arms are at your sides. if it sat any lower than that, you'd have to bend your knees or do other weird contortions to be able to reach everything inside the pocket. therefore, if you want to wear a fashion waistline significantly lower than the natural waist, you will necessarily end up with smaller pockets. it has nothing to do with ~*sexism*~.

(came to mind because i just drafted a skirt pattern with pockets. hell if i'm ever wearing an outfit that isn't a costume and requires me to carry a handbag.)
