elsewhence: (guide text adventure)
what if we brought back old-fashioned text adventures, but instead of them actually being text they were more like interactive audio dramas. we're definitely at the point where all the commands typical of something like an infocom game could be implemented! though sadly not at the point where we could have the kind of dialogue trees you get in graphical adventure games, since there would be no good way to present predetermined responses and we're far from being able to do a system that can understand and meaningfully respond to every single thing a player might say. most you could do is the kind of thing that the hitchhiker's guide infocom game has in some points, where instead of full dialogue trees there's just points where telling or asking a character one specific thing causes one specific result...

seriously, someone do it, video games that actually have no visual element at all are definitely not a medium that has gotten a lot of attention
